Sorry We Are Closed

The pandemic affected a lot of us. It's a very hard decision that we have to close our practice in Lindsay. Thank you so much for your support and trust during the last 7 years of practice. For ongoing treatments, you can visit Osteo Tuina - they have clinics located in Downtown North York and  Chinatown in Downtown Toronto. All the best!

Tuina
(tui na) pronounced 'too-way-nah' is one of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine; its sister therapies are herbal medicine, acupuncture and qi-gong.

Tuina is relatively new to the West but its roots in China are ancient. Archaeological studies have dated it back to around 2700 BC, making it the forefather of all forms of massage and body work that exit today from shiatsu to osteopathy.

Throughout its history, tuina has been developed, refined and systematized by doctors in the colleges and hospitals of traditional Chinese medicine all over China. Tuina is a very popular form of treatment with the people in China and it is not at all unusual to see people queuing up in long lines outside the hospitals waiting for the tuina department to open. It is also the first choice of treatment for infants and children"

Foot massage is one of the most unbelievably relaxing treats that you can give yourself or others. The ultimate study of foot massage is reflexology.
Foot reflexology is "pressure therapy" and involves applying focused pressure to certain known reflex points located in the foot to cure or prevent disease. Foot reflexology is based on the premise that our nerve zones or reflex points go from the bottom of our feet to the top of our head, encompassing all vital organs on the way. A trained reflexologist can put pressure on different meridiens or energy lines on the sole and side of the feet to determine the cause of illness.

Registered Acupuncuture

Acupuncture is now regulated throughout Ontario. Our therapist offers Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Cupping & Guasha

Acupuncture stimulates the body to produce its own pain relieving chemicals called "endorphins". These chemicals mimic morphine by attaching to opiate receptor sites found throughout the nervous system. Endorphins help to block pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain, resulting in relief of pain, general relaxation and biochemical restoration of the body's own internal regulation systems. According to traditional Chinese Medicine each human organ is associated with specific points in the skin. Invisible lines called meridians or channels link the points. The body's natural energy or Qi (chi) flows through these channels. When disease or dysfunction occurs, acupuncturists know which points to manipulate to restore the natural flow of energy and to restore balance to the body's systems.

Moxibustion usually use a grain-size cone of moxa or dry yellow spongy substance made from a herbal plant "mugwort " and placed on the acupoints with shiunko cream and lit with an incense stick. The patient experiences a very comfortable sensation of heat. Moxibustion in general has more or less the same efficacy as acupuncture. However, medical experiments have shown that moxibustion exerts much wider and stronger effect on overall biochemical changes in the body than acupuncture

Cupping is an ancient technique that is still used by modern practitioners. This form of treatment is usually performed as an alternative to acupuncture, moxabustion, Tuina and TDP Lamp therapy. The cups are placed over acupuncture points but they treat a larger area of the body.It is used to treat stagnation in the channels. It can also be very helpful in expelling the external pathogenic factor of cold wind that can invade the lungs.

Guasha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic, promoting normal circulation and metabolic processes. The patient experiences immediate relief from pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, nausea, and so on. Gua Sha is valuable in the prevention and treatment of acute infectious illness, upper respiratory and digestive problems, and many other acute or chronic disorders

Manual Osteopathy

The word Osteopathy is derived from two Greek words meaning bone and dysfunction. The founder of Osteopathy, Dr Andrew Taylor Still, chose this name to highlight how the structure of the skeleton is vital in correct function of the body’s systems, and that misalignment of bones can cause dysfunction. Dr Still established the first Osteopathic College in 1892 in Kirksville, Missouri, since then Osteopathy has spread around the world. After his death in 1917 Osteopathy split into two branches. One branch merged with and became an allopathic medical degree, it is only possible to study this form of Osteopathy in the U.S.A. graduates are called osteopathic physicians. The other branch remained separate from mainstream medicine and established itself in Europe, these practitioners are called Oseopathy Manual Practitioners in Ontario.

Manual Osteopathic focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the body’s structure, whether it is related to the pelvis, peripheral joints, visceral organs, nervous systems, venous system or spine. Osteopathic manual practitioner use manipulations to the joints or organs and gentle oscillatory movements to correct biomechanical dysfunctions that are related to neuromusculoskeletal complaints. In addition to this they will also provide advice regarding exercises, diet and lifestyle to augment the bodies own healing capabilities . By restoring proper mechanics to an area the osteopathic manual practitioners allows the normal flow of fluids and improves function which will help to reduce pain and normal activity for that patient.
Concept and Principles

Osteopathic manual practitioners believe that abnormal functioning of one area of the body can cause symptoms to present elsewhere in the body, the theory of ‘Tensegrity’. When the body is balanced there is no excessive stress anywhere in the body, but when the body becomes out of balance this can be amplified to other areas. Osteopathic manual practitioners regard the whole of the body as greater than a collection of all its parts. They acknowledge the body’s inherent ability to heal itself and seek to support that process by removing any obstacles that impede it. In order for this to happen osteopathic manual practitioners specialize in individualized patients management, which includes educating the patient about their particular condition and how they can adjust their lifestyle to allow themselves the best possible chance recovery or optimal management.
Shiatsu is Japanese for "finger pressure"; it is a type of alternative medicine consisting of finger and palm pressure, stretches, and other massage techniques. Some shiatsu practitioners promote it as a way to help people relax and cope with issues such as stress, muscle pain, nausea, anxiety, and depression. Thai massage is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage.
