Acupuncture is now regulated throughout Ontario. Our therapist offers Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Cupping & Guasha
Acupuncture stimulates the body to produce its own pain relieving chemicals called "endorphins". These chemicals mimic morphine by attaching to opiate receptor sites found throughout the nervous system. Endorphins help to block pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain, resulting in relief of pain, general relaxation and biochemical restoration of the body's own internal regulation systems. According to traditional Chinese Medicine each human organ is associated with specific points in the skin. Invisible lines called meridians or channels link the points. The body's natural energy or Qi (chi) flows through these channels. When disease or dysfunction occurs, acupuncturists know which points to manipulate to restore the natural flow of energy and to restore balance to the body's systems.
Moxibustion usually use a grain-size cone of moxa or dry yellow spongy substance made from a herbal plant "mugwort " and placed on the acupoints with shiunko cream and lit with an incense stick. The patient experiences a very comfortable sensation of heat. Moxibustion in general has more or less the same efficacy as acupuncture. However, medical experiments have shown that moxibustion exerts much wider and stronger effect on overall biochemical changes in the body than acupuncture
Cupping is an ancient technique that is still used by modern practitioners. This form of treatment is usually performed as an alternative to acupuncture, moxabustion, Tuina and TDP Lamp therapy. The cups are placed over acupuncture points but they treat a larger area of the body.It is used to treat stagnation in the channels. It can also be very helpful in expelling the external pathogenic factor of cold wind that can invade the lungs.
Guasha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic, promoting normal circulation and metabolic processes. The patient experiences immediate relief from pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, nausea, and so on. Gua Sha is valuable in the prevention and treatment of acute infectious illness, upper respiratory and digestive problems, and many other acute or chronic disorders
